The Importance of Silencing

One day I was invited to attend a workshop on ‘Music and Silence in Teaching’

And in order to reach the venue, I thought of taking a bus instead of driving.

Upon reaching the bus stop, I saw several commuters miserably waiting,

So, I said to myself, ‘It seems the police officers are on the road policing’.

After being at the bus stop for about an hour, there was still no bus coming,

And after checking the time, I decided to take a taxi without deliberating….

Even though I should as some taxi drivers love to reap what they do not sow by robbing,

And if they do not get their hearts’ desires, they would employ their plan B, abducting.

Some may even have a plan ‘C’ which is to show their barbaric skills in the act of killing.

Anyway, when I asked the driver if he could take me, he frowned a little then said, “Due to the traffic on the road, $1000 is what I will be charging”.

I was so overjoyed that I jumped in the car instantly, then off to where I was going.

After about 30 minutes in the traffic, the driver realized what was happening.

He figured I was bored as I kept hissing my teeth along with some mumbling.

He then began to play a beautiful song and I tell you, it was oh so soothing!

While I was listening to the song, moving my shoulders and reminiscing,

It seemed the driver was exhausted, so he became sleepy and started nodding.

Before I could say “Driver, what exactly is happening?”

The car fell into a pothole and if you were close by, you would have heard me screaming.

Fortunately, no one was hurt but his CD player had started malfunctioning.

He claimed he was listening to the music and was no longer focusing,

But he did not fool me one bit because when I am sitting upright and feel like sleeping,

I would nod my head and do the same thing he was doing.

Nothing stayed the same after the incident as the journey became boring.

It was then my turn to nod, but which was accompanied by some yawning.

For a while, there was total silence in the car then suddenly, I heard a sound that was frightening.

It was the sound of ‘thunder from down under’ that I was hearing.

I knew I was not the culprit, so I looked at the driver who was comfortably farting.

I guess he felt comfortable as it was a natural legal act that he was employing.

In other words, it was to nature’s call that he was responding,

A call that everybody is guilty of answering to, but which is not life-threatening.

It would only become life-threatening if pride is used to prevent it from releasing.

One thing though, shortly after the sound was an unpleasant odor that made me start sneezing,

So, I had to cover my nostrils for a while, but which was too stifling.

Trust me, anyhow I was close to my destination I would have gotten out and started walking.

You know, I have a feeling the driver had been answering to nature’s calling

From the time he turned on the music, which was loudly playing.

He probably did not even play the song for me but played it so I would not hear when his anus was ‘sneezing’.

I am convinced his anus was telling him to stop the car, immediately find a restroom then start defecating,

But his focus was more about money earning and not body pleasing.

I reached my destination safely but due to the odor, my respiratory tract was temporarily suffering.

Amidst all that, I reached safely and at least the experience did not leave me dying.

I was on time for the workshop, the presenters were well prepared and overall, it was engaging.

When I reached home that afternoon, I had to reminisce about the day’s events on ‘Silencing’.
