Some Things Are Not Worth Fighting For

boxing, box, fight

I try to wake up on a positive note each morning, as it’s likely to stay the same throughout the rest of the day. However, sometimes things do not turn out the way we would have loved – events in life are sometimes unpredictable. One morning as I knelt down to pray, I reminisced about a strange event that took place some time ago. I’m not sure how it tied in with my prayer but guess I was being reminded that no matter how strange something may seem, we should still be thankful.

Some people say “Bun a fyah pon a meat” which means they do not eat meat but as for me, the only fire I will burn is the one that cooks it so that it can be yummy in my tummy.
As a matter of fact, I have something to say
Because try as I may,
To meat, I just can’t say nay.
I’m not burning any fyah, no way!

So my motto is:

‘Meat fi eat as long as gum isn’t void of teet.

One afternoon I pot-roasted a piece of beef and as soon as it was ready for consumption, I cut it into manageable slices for my teeth. However, before cutting it into smaller pieces, I took out a nice, juicy- looking bone from it – a bone I thought I couldn’t resist eating. I wanted to eat it before sharing dinner but my inner voice reminded me that my boys were too hungry, so I needed to serve them first. Now being their servant, I had to give priority to them that day, and even on many other occasions. It was ok to serve them because they were still young and weren’t mature enough to share their own hot food.

It’s good to listen to our inner voices at times because shortly after I shared the boys’ dinner,
I took up the bone and as I started eating it, I was engaged in a battle –
a battle with the bone of a cattle.
But you know, If only I had ‘bun a fyah pon a meat’,
There wouldn’t have been any showdown between the bone and my ‘teet’.
I tell you, the bone was so strong that I thought the teeth that reside in ‘Left Jaw Corner’ would have ‘migrated’.

Anyway, after realizing teeth wouldn’t be victorious, I forced them to give up fighting as it wasn’t worth it.
If they were to prolong with the fight the headline would be:
“Woman’s Teeth Fell Out From Left Jaw Corner During A Fight With A Bone”.
And not: “Woman’s Teeth Fell Out From Left Jaw Corner After Being Hit With A stone”.

You know, my teeth may have lost the fight
But at least they have other chances to bite,
And hopefully, during that time, they’ll get it right.

As I brushed my teeth the following morning, I felt a little pain so I realized that gum and nerves were affected, they were victims.

Later on, when I reminisced about the experience, I realized that there are indeed some things not worth fighting for –
things that won’t uplift us and are likely to give unnecessary pain or may even leave a scar.
